Waxing Moon Earrings

From the perspective of having lived nearly a half century, I found this challenge daunting at first.  Teenagerhood was a long time ago for me.  I can’t say I remember too much of the feeling of it!  My original thoughts were of a light and airy time of life, qualities that do not reflect my current jewelry designs!

I took a moment and reflected on myself as a teenager:  What did I wear?  What was my hair like?  Who were my friends?  What came into sharp focus was my jewelry.

Jewelry has always been a love of mine, starting at the age of 6 when I asked my mom for a turquoise ring for Christmas.  However, it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I truly started to adorn myself.  Imagine a thirteen year old going to an all white school in South Seattle wearing Native American bone chokers, long beaded earrings and gemstone rings.  It truly was the beginning of a love of big, bold, earthy jewelry and believing that wearing it is magic.

I chose a design that represents the moon when she is young.  She is growing and ripening with so many possibilities.  A design that I think my teenage self would have loved.
